The parlor is decorated with furnishings that we have collected from our families over the years. Craig's grandfather's trunk, in which he brought all his earthly possessions from Germany when he immigrated to Minnesota in 1885, sits in the corner of the room under the hand painted oil lamp that was a wedding gift to Craig's grandparents in 1900. The couches were my aunt's first furniture in the 1930's and flank the oak butler's table that Craig made for me early in our marriage.
Among the many "treasures" in the room are a Washburn mandolin that won awards at the Columbia Exposition in 1894 and a curio cabinet full of keepsakes from both our families. A collection of old writing implements, my mother's childhood glasses, a silver tea service given to Karen's father by a grateful family in Poland during the reconstruction period after WWII are but a few of the precious family keepsakes. Throughout the room you will also find mementos we have collected on our travels throughout the United States, Europe and Asia.
